On Monday, March 7, I attended MassChallenge’s second annual global startup competition and accelerator launch party at the company’s headquarters at One Marina Park Drive in the Boston seaport. MassChallenge awards a total of $1 million in seed funding to the winners of the competition, provides them with office space in its headquarters and connects them with formal and informal advisors in the start-up community.
The event kicked off at 3 p.m. with remarks from Jeff Taylor (founder of Monster.com), Josh Boger (founder of Vertex Pharmaceuticals), Desh Deshpande (chairman of A123 Systems), Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick (remotely) and other MassChallenge supporters and alumni. The formal portion of the event adjourned at around 5 p.m. and MassChallenge opened its offices to host a reception where attendees mingled with alumni of the competition, prospective entrants and members of the start-up community.
Check out last year’s winners and learn more about this year’s competition on MassChallenge’s website.
